About the event

It makes perfect sense that Max Gomez embodies the melting pot genre known as “folk music”. With a father of Portuguese and Spanish descent and a mother of Scottish and Irish heritage, he split his childhood years between the Kansas heartland and the high desert of Taos, New Mexico. It wasn’t long after getting his first guitar at age 10 for Christmas that he began performing in the bars of northern New Mexico, before moving to Los Angeles at age 18 to pursue music full time.

Only 25 years old when he recorded his first album in 2012, Rule the World (New West Records), brought the young songwriter critical acclaim. With Kiefer Sutherland directing the music video for that album’s single, “Run From You”, Max was off and running. His subsequent EP, Me and Joe (2017, Brigadoon Records), contained a freshly minted classic, “Make it Me”, which gained over two million listeners on Spotify alone.

After George Floyd’s murder in 2020 he addressed the country’s deepening divide in a single release that fall, rewriting lyrics to a song first recorded by Leadbelly in the 1930s. “He Was A Friend of Mine” is Max’s commentary on historical and contemporary racial and social injustice.

Judging by the company he keeps, Gomez is positioned to emerge as a prominent voice of America’s next generation. He has shared billing on hundreds of stages with stalwarts of the genre like James McMurtry, Shawn Mullins, Patty Griffin, Jim Lauderdale, John Hiatt and is just off a tour with Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp.

Only 95 tickets will be sold so treat yourself to this very special Winter Solstice concert when Max Gomez visits the intimate listening room of the historic Coaldale Schoolhouse.
